Security DVR

Security Digital Video Recorders record video signals from cctv cameras for detection and documentation purposes of criminal activities around your home or business. Many Security DVR systems are designed to record audio as well as video of the crime scene.

Today's generation of Security DVR's has evolved into feature rich technical devices that provide services that far exceed the simple recording that was previously done with VCRs.

Features of Security DVR's

A Security DVR CCTV system provides advanced functions over VCR technology of the past. Such features as video searches by event, time, date and camera are very common on today's models of Dvr's. You also are allowed much more control over video quality and frame rate allowing disk space usage to be optimized. Today's Security DVR systems can be set to overwrite the old security footage to save on disk space.

Nice features in modern DVR security systems are remote access to live security video footage from any PC. You can sit at home and watch your business, or sit at work and watch your home. Professional security DVR's include motion detection, which also helps save on disk space.

Security DVRs may be categorized as being either PC based or embedded.

A PC based DVR’s architecture is a classical personal computer with video capture cards designed to capture video images. These types of DVR's are not reliable and prone to crashing, viruses and hacking.  They also use consumer-grade components and have a shorter operating life than embedded DVR's.

An embedded type DVR is specifically designed as a digital video recorder with its operating system and application software contained in firmware or read only memory. There is no operating system on the hard drives, it can't pick up a virus and can't be hacked. These types of security DVR's are often called "stand-alone" DVR's, and do not crash or hang up like PC-type units. Trouble-free operation and rock solid stability are hallmarks of embedded DVR's.
